Fusion Ignition Achieved by ProChem’s Long Time Partner
On December 13th the Unites States Department of Energy announced it had achieved a positive fusion energy output through the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories (LLNL). This constitutes a massive step forward in the quest for sustainable and clean fusion energy for the world.

The breakthrough experiment, conducted on December 5th, delivered 2.05 megajoules of energy to its target and output 3.15 megajoules of fusion energy by shooting 192 lasers at a tritium target of less than 1 mg. During the firing process the frequency of the light is converted from 1w (1053nm) to 3w (351nm) as it enters the target chamber using crystal lenses grown from ultra-high purity Potassium Dihydrogen Phospphate (KDP). Prochem has supplied KPD to the LLNL since 1988.
ProChem is proud to have been a part of what will hopefully be the most important scientific breakthrough for humanity’s energy future.
