Information about Europium (III) Fluoride, anhydrous / CAS 13765-25-8

Europium Fluoride is a white, water-insoluble rare earth salt primarily used as a precursor for incorporating Europium ions into functional materials. Like other Europium compounds, it is valued for its luminescent properties and is widely used in the production of phosphors for displays and lighting. Europium-doped materials are also important in optical applications, including lasers, specialty glasses, and optical fibers. For example, researchers at Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, used Europium(III) Fluoride to synthesize a range of Europium-doped crystalline materials with the ABF₃ structure type (A = Na, K, Rb, Cs; B = Mg, Ca, Sr), which exhibited ultraviolet and visible light emission.

In another study, researchers at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York, doped a Zirconium–Barium–Thorium Fluoride optical glass with Europium Fluoride, where Europium ions were found to substitute for Barium ions, resulting in optical properties suitable for laser applications.
