The Energy at ACS Fall 2026(opens in new tab) was unmistakable as thousands of chemists, researchers, and industry leaders gathered at McCormick Place in Chicago. ProChem Inc. joined the momentum with a busy and well-visited booth, meeting face-to-face with scientists advancing materials research, analytical chemistry, sustainability initiatives, and next-generation manufacturing.  Throughout the week, our team exchanged ideas, explored collaboration opportunities and showcased the specialty inorganic compounds and rare earth materials that support cutting-edge research across the chemical enterprise.

Highlights from ACS Fall 2026

Entry stairs to the ACS Fall 2026 Conference celebrating 150 yearsThis year’s meeting marked a milestone – 150 years of the American Chemical Society(opens in new tab) – and the programming reflected both the legacy and the future of the chemical sciences. The anniversary brought special programming including the ACS150 JACS Symposium Series, where four Nobel Laureates presented breakthroughs in biorthogonal chemistry, super-resolution microscopy, origins of genetic information, and lithium battery materials. The week also featured the ChemLuminary Awards(opens in new tab) and sessions focused on building safer, more resilient scientific practices for the next century.

Across the technical program, ACS Fall 2026 highlighted how rapidly the research landscape is evolving – from advances in analytical instrumentation and automated laboratory workflows to the growing influence of AI-driven data analysis. These tools are accelerating discovery in materials innovation, enabling researchers to design, test, and refine functional materials with greater precision and speed. Many sessions also emphasized chemistry’s role in addressing global challenges, including sustainable manufacturing, critical mineral recovery, and next-generation energy systems, themes that resonated strongly with attendees throughout the week.

Sustainability & Greener Chemistry

Sustainability remained front and center, with programming on:

  • Greener solvent selection
  • Circular water economy strategies
  • Sustainable recovery of critical minerals
  • Green Chemistry Challenge Award winners

These discussions align closely with ProChem’s commitment to responsible sourcing and environmentally conscious manufacturing. Many attendees were interested in high-purity salts used in environmental and aqueous systems, including Potassium Nitrate, Calcium Borate, and Aluminum Sulfate, which support search in water treatment, mineral recovery, and green process chemistry.

Emerging Materials & Light-Driven Technologies

Symposia on light-driven synthesis, laser-induced modulation, and functional materials emphasized new ways to tailor material properties for electronics, energy systems, and quantum applications. Researchers working in photonics and spectroscopy frequently discussed rare-earth dopants such as Ytterbium Oxide, Erbium Chloride, and Dysprosium Nitrate, materials widely used in optical coatings, laser systems, and luminescent devices.

Planetary Science & Astrochemistry

Growing interest in astrochemistry brought sessions on atmospheric modeling, biosignature detection, and chemical processes relevant to planetary missions – an interdisciplinary area gaining momentum across the chemical sciences. Several visitors noted applications for high-purity compounds such as Tellurium Oxide, Bismuth Nitrate and Yttrium Acetate in sensor development, thin-film deposition, and spectroscopic instrumentation used in planetary exploration.
